A head teacher in Wales has taken a hard line on school workwear policy at the start of the new term.

Graham Davies at the Ysgol John Bright School in Llandudno has insisted that pupils must wear only the correct uniform when on school premises.

Ahead of the new term, Mr Davies sent a letter to parents stating his intention to take a firm stance on uniform policy, including with makeup, nail varnish, jewellery and hair extensions all being banned.

Mr Davies told the North Wales Weekly News: "We have bought a stock of items like sweatshirts, shirts and ties, and we have loaned these items to pupils explaining they can be paid for when their family can afford it."

"We have had some positive feedback and the staff are buoyant about it," he explained.

"I would hope parents who have concerns or issues they wish to raise with me would come so they can be addressed."

A school in Tonbridge recently sent out items of old workwear to a charity which helps children in the Balkans.

The Canadian national hockey team will get newly designed corporate clothing ahead of 2010 Winter Olympics, it has emerged.

Both the men's and women's teams will get the new look uniforms due to an International Olympic Committee ruling that all clothing must not carry logos of National Sports Federations.

This means that the Hockey Canada logo, which features an ice hockey player skating through a maple leaf, must be removed from all the team's corporate clothing.

Bob Nicholson, Hockey Canada president, told the Vancouver Sun: "Right now, what we are doing is looking at various designs that we can come up with".

"We are trying to clearly find out from the [Canadian Olympic Committee] what the process is to get a jersey design approved."

"As soon as we get that, then we'll look at different designs that we will wear in 2010," he added.

The 2010 Winter Olympics will be held in the Canadian city of Vancouver from February 1st to March 21st.

A police force on the Isle of Man has donated workwear to a charity shop so that the items can be sold for reuse.

The Isle of Man Constabulary donated over 60 pairs of police uniform trousers to a charity shop in Douglas on the island.

Chief constable Mike Langdon personally made the donation to the Save the Children charity shop on Windsor road in the town.

It is hoped that the donated workwear will help the shop raise funds towards the global work of Save the Children.

Mr Langdon told Manx Radio that the charity was chosen because it has a strong connection to the force's current priorities.

"We're doing a lot of work with children and young people, they are our priority this year," he explained. "So it seemed an appropriate place to direct them [the trousers] in terms of our priorities."

"Its just an attempt by us to demonstrate that we are part of the community and that the people who are the most vulnerable, we are here for them," he added.

English police in Durham and Berkshire are currently trialling new military-style uniforms which could be more suitable for the challenges of modern policing.

A new exhibition has opened in Florence, Italy, which demonstrates the effect and influence of workwear on contemporary fashion and society.

Curated by Oliviero Toscani, the Workwear: Lavoro Moda Seduzione exhibition runs at the Stazione Leopolda in Florence until February 8th.

Mr Toscani worked alongside Olivier Saillard, from the Musee des Arts Decoratif in Paris, to put the exhibition together.

They have focused on exploring the history and impact of workwear, including presenting around 2,800 items of technical and practical clothes and accessories.

Mr Saillard told the International Herald Tribune that the exhibition is about "work clothes as a fashion inspiration".

"And it is also about having a uniform," he continued. "For men, a suit is a uniform and maybe we are in need of that to calm down fashion."

The exhibition features a pair of silver lame overalls by Yohji Yamamoto, alongside transparent nurse uniforms designed by Marc Jacobs for the Louis Vuitton label

Badminton Europe has announced that new corporate clothing will be introduced for all referees and umpires overseeing events during 2009.

This includes three new types of workwear including a long sleeve sweatshirt, a polo shirt and a soft shell jacket.

All Badminton Europe accredited referees and umpires will now start wearing black for the first time ever as they oversee matches during 2009.

This will run in addition to the traditional red corporate clothing with all certified officials receiving two polo shirts and one long sleeve shirt free of charge.

Member Associations can also purchase additional items of embroidered clothing in the same range or have their logo attached to the workwear.

To do this, each club must simply submit the design of their club's logo which is then transferred onto the items of embroidered clothing.

Badminton Europe recently announced that 27 new umpires have been appointed to the 2009 Mixed Team Championships which are due to go ahead in Liverpool during February.
