Fashion designer Rajesh Pratap Singh has reportedly expressed an interest in creating a new range of workwear for the Indian armed forces.

The Delhi-based designer confirmed to DNA that he is interested in taking on the task but that does not want to reveal any further details at the stage.

However, the news agency reports a source as revealing that "Rajesh has been keen on designing uniforms for the military [for] a long time".

The source indicated that he submitted designs to the government around six months ago but is yet to receive a reply.

"Rajesh has given the government designs of bullet-proof jackets and straight trousers, keeping the design and the comfort factor in mind," the source explained.

"He is a designer who has showcased at various international fashion weeks but is very media-shy."

Mr Singh will travel to Paris in January 2009 to present his new menswear collection before showcasing his womenswear range in Delhi later in the year.
