De Menezes supporters protest with printed t-shirts

Tue, 23 Sep 2008 10:12

Supporters of Jean Charles de Menezes arrived at his inquest yesterday wearing printed t-shirts emblazoned with the slogan "Justice4Jean".

The Brazilian electrician was shot dead two years ago as he embarked on a train at Stockwell tube station after he was mistaken for a terrorist.

A 12-week inquest began at Oval cricket ground in London yesterday, only a short distance from where the incident occurred on July 22nd 2005.

Members of his family and supporters held a small protest wearing printed t-shirts with the tube logo and the date of the Mr de Menezes's death.

Leaflets were also handed out to passers by and a banner could be seen hanging out of the window of a nearby flat which read "Inquest not cover-up - Justice for Jean".

A tribute to the memory of Mr de Menezes has been in place outside of Stockwell tube station since the incident.

The police have maintained that they shot the electrician because they were led to believe he was a suicide bomber capable of setting off a device on the underground.
